Giving back to the community is an intregal part of the culture of Worldwide Moving Systems. One of our organizations we work with is Farming 4 Hunger. Through our charitable contributions we have helped fund tower gardens like the one seen in this picture. Farming 4 Hunger partnered with Matula Elementary to provide a tower garden so kids can learn about plants and help grow them as part of their curriculum. This enables children to be aware of how to be environmentally conscience as well as learn gardening techniques.
Farming for Hunger
Farming for Hunger not only participates in tower gardens but also serves many in need. Farming for Hunger (F4H) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2012 to serve those in need of fresh food in Southern Maryland. The organization grows and distributes over a million pounds of locally grown, fresh food each year. It also provides work and coaching for individuals that are transistioning from the justice system through it’s 2nd chance initiative. 2nd Chance initiative is to engage and successfully equip justice-involved individuals as sustainable problem solvers who work together with their communities allowing all to live well and in turn reduce recidivism, increase valued assets to our workforce, and break through the wall of addiction in our community.
What is a Tower Garden?
The Tower Garden is a patented general vertical hydroponic growing system, although it is at times confused to be an aeroponic system. Priced at over $500 and weighing over 150lbs when filled, it is a patented food production system designed for urban farms, rooftop gardens, and commercial growing operations. Because of its vertical design, the system is space and energy efficient. The basic unit has a 2.5′ x 2.5′ footprint, and uses modular stackable growing pots. With an 11-pot maximum configuration, you can grow up to 44 plants per tower with 90% less space and water and in a fraction of the time compared to conventional gardening.
The Tower Garden is made from hardened polyurethane. Additionally, the Tower Garden product is designed for decades of use. The plastic is several times thicker than almost all hydroponic products available on the market today. The plastic is also completely opaque, keeping all sunlight out (which naturally inhibits algae growth), and is UV stabilized for outdoor protection.
